One thing to keep in mind…flogging with metal requires a careful assessment of the bottom’s abilities and the top’s abilities in flogging. The metal in the case of mine can open someone right up if desired. Or it can be frozen and draped over them for sensation play. You can actually flog with it, it just requires precision fine-tuned control as it could easily get out of hand much more so than leather.
DooloverityParticipantI enjoy chain, particularly small gauge about 12 inches long.
For fun you can heat or freeze them and it adds a whole new level of fun.
Let the weight of the flogger carry the swing. You dont need much force, unless of course you intend to cause damage but obviously youll need more intimate knowledge of your bottom to do so.
DooloverityParticipantHey all. My girlfriend has mentioned flogging in the past and I was curious about a few things. What would be the best “starter” flog to get? What do I look for in a quality flog? I’m somewhat familiar with the technique but what are some good resources for learning? Thanks in advance.
Bithe1987ParticipantI’ll see your CrankyOldBastard and see you a Sovran, especially his TopShelf models. 😉 But seriously, if you want quality, there are many a fine maker out there, but in my experience, cheap ain’t good, and good ain’t cheap. Ask folks in your local groups or functions you may attend to give you pointers on learning, and makers, and types…most folks who love flogging will be more than happy to go on at length about their favorites and share proper techniques to study. Just be sure you look, but don’t touch their floggers without permission first!
FromendsParticipantI see you are in BDSM Mentors group. i found a local guy who mentored me when I was learning, it was a great help. There is also a book named “Flogging!”, by Joseph Bean you may be interested in. Explains some of the “science” behind it and more.
Also, I started a joke group named Floggers Anonymous which ended up having over 150 members. Flogger addicts and makers alike. Come check it out if you like. If this post isn’t appropriate, please feel free to delete it admin.
ThedidismindParticipantI would recommend a mixed fall flogger. They have the most versatility, well balanced and preferred by most- experienced and new. with elk and a dense cow hide. The cow falls can be cut slightly shorter to reduce sting or opposite to increase.
I may be able to further assist you in regards to what sensations you may enjoy more than others. I performed a study over the past year to see how people feel stimulation differently than one another. This helped me learn how people explain a sensation or what simple sensation feels like to them to further help me tell what type of flogger they would probably prefer.
Feel free to send me a private message at any time if you have any more questions.
Welcome to our addictive world of flogging! LolRelly1960ParticipantI just had a lesson. It was a trip. I’m very good with my hands, like using tools, have good dexterity etc., it is NOT an easy thing to do right. The main issue is “wrap around”. It is surprisingly difficult (at least for me) to get the right technique, control the weight of the blows and to hit the target correctly. Some of it is non-obvious. I am planning to get more instruction and supervision before doing it on my own. The last thing you want to do is mess it all up, hurt and scare your partner because if they don’t have a good time it could be a downer. Also I strongly suspect that there is a learning curve for the person receiving.
Priblefulth1985ParticipantWhat is your favorite kind of flogger and handle?
Do you prefer a special length and weight?
And what style do you prefer to practice when you are playing?RoperrinParticipantFavorite flogger- the one you’re holding at the time (my preference) would be the 1″ x 30″ black and purple ones
Handle- always liked the ones you put flames on with your signature “A” on the hilt
Style – your hard impact Florentine
JohnnyParticipantI have many a flogger, and it is really hard to single one out as a favorite. I suppose my general go-to style is the figure eight, but have been working on, and improving my florentine for a bit now. And for handles, I like woven (or braided) over just a “wrap” style. I have come to really like roo skin a LOT, but it comes with a bit higher price tag and so far have one flogger and one signal whip in roo.
Thinking it over, I can come up with 2 I will call favorites.
One goes by the name El Kabong (makers name, not mine) It is a beast! If I recall correctly there is about 9 sq. ft. of leather in this one versus somewhere around 3 sq. ft. in a “standard” flogger. It is made with the idea of using it with both hands, as it is quite heavy compared to many you may have handled, pure thud and everyone (OK, one exception) who has ever felt it’s effect has fallen in love with it. Made by rosie_cd, who is a pleasure to deal with, and quite reasonably priced…particularly when you factor in the amount of leather involved. I have a couple of her other models and have been very pleased with them all.
The other would have to be one of Sovran’s Top_Shelf custom creations. Another great maker to work with who has always been happy to take my requests and thoughts into consideration and we come up with a final design idea after he shares his own insights. Tis’ a buffaroo model, which has a roo skin handle, and (go figure) buffalo hide falls. He worked my initials into the handle which was a surprise added bonus and makes it all that much more special to me. He does exceptional work, and I have several other of his creations, love them all. He is always working towards perfecting his craft further and further.
The 2 are not listed in any particular order, just so happened I had El Kabong handy in my own pics, but had to go to the Top_Shelf page for the other pic and took me a moment longer. Clearly two VERY different style floggers. I could have sworn I had my own pic of the buffaroo, but it seems to have magically disappeared. Crazy internet…
Aken1963ParticipantI’ve yet to get close to mastering the finger floggers, introduced to them after being schooled in proper flogging techniques with “standard” type floggers. I do have a pair, I think my issue with them is the falls are about 4-5″ longer than most of my other ones, I want to trim them back, but just haven’t been able to bring myself to do it yet. Actually had rosie_cd work with me and we improvised a way to switch between them being finger floggers and having handles which she luckily had enough leftovers of the original colors to match. See a resemblance to my EL Kabong? 😉
I too, seem to have a wide assortment of various fall variations. All leather, but again, one or more for every sensation you could think of I think…which led me to start the Floggers Anonymous group. LOL Began as a total joke between myself and the mentor I had at the time, as we found ourselves finding so many new and different types available, and watching our wallets grow thinner as we investigated as many as we could. Slowly we picked up a couple of members here and there, and to my complete surprise ended up with the 175 +/- members we currently have, Dealers, and addicts alike. Not trying to steal members from this group at all! If this post isn’t appropriate, then admin, please feel free to pull it. Just thought it was a funny story.
RacclutParticipantMy favourite to use is bruiser (so called because he is black and blue)
4sq foot of soft 4oz calf leather, cut 24″ long and 1″ wide.He is pretty much an all purpose flogger and is loved by everyone I have used him on. Big, heavy and thuddy, what’s not to like?
And yes I assign names and genders to floggers, so that I remember which one a customer is talking about.
I tend to use a big “forehand/backhand swing for power, but mix it up a lot during the course of a scene depends on who I am flogging and what they like and want.Ribut1974ParticipantI have suffered from gallbladder attacks for the past two years or so. They always come at night when I am trying to sleep. They start earlier in the day with a pain in the back as if I strained a muscle. Sometimes I realize what it is, most of the time I don’t.
However the other day I had my first real flogging, and later that night I woke with the most fearsome pain in my gut. It lasted about 10 minutes whereas all my other gallbladder attacks lasted hours. This was not preemptived by back muscle pain or discomfort. The pain was different from normal too and in a slightly different location. All my attacks start in the back and worsen and then form in the front and feel as if I am being stabbed with a sword front to back. This new attack had back pain but was focused in the front.
The next day I still had the back discomfort and that evening I had several more of these attacks. They lasted between 5-10 minutes and ranged in pain from 5 through a high 9. Talking to a few friends they said it sounded like I might be passing a gall stone from their experience.
My question to those of you who have gallbladder attacks and who enjoy a fligging…. Is there a correlation between the two? Could my being flogged triggered a stone to move? Or just caused a weird onset of attacks?
Thank youBationeParticipantOoooo, galbladder attacks are horrible!
Just about anything can cause the stones to move. Activity can certainly shake them up– found out about mine while taking martial arts classes. Sometimes, though, they just happen out of the blue. Anything that shakes them up will potentially have influence, but that’s not the sole cause. Passing gallstones is fairly rare, and they can get stuck.
Have you scheduled surgery yet to have your gallbladder out? They can do it through a fairly tiny incision; you’re in and out on the same day, back to non-strenuous usual activities inside a week.
FortannigeParticipantPlease don’t delay seeing a doctor and scheduling the surgery. Since the stones are moving around the longer you wait the more risk you have of a stone blocking the bile duct and starting gangrene or worse having the gallbladder rupture and cause peritonitis.Either way you have surgery, the only difference is the amount of time you would have to be in the hospital. The surgery is simple amd done out patient.
Once I had the surgery I had no more issues with that kond of sickening pain. Best of luck to you.
