I am like you, i love to be flogged. I have recently found that i absolutely love dragon tails as well depending on how they are used. The only one i have experienced was leather. I am not brave enough to venture out to cable ones and honestly im abit to scared for those. Im sure there are different materials such as suede or leather that you can use. Its alittle different effect thana flogger. It has more of a sting to it, but like i said it all depends on how its used.

As for as finding one or making one, im not sure. I have been looking for one for awhile now and havent found one that i truly like yet. It would be interesting to see what others have to say about things too. 🙂

So after looking up what a dragon tail is.. That’s exactly what I had in mind, though I’m not sure if it will replicate the same feeling from the cable I originally experienced, unless the dragon tails come in different thicknesses, the sting from the thin cable was amazing and I loved the mark it left. I wanted to make a flog out of maybe some strong, thin rope that had been braided and with a small knot on the end. And definitely gonna have to look further into it and see what others have on the subject. And thanks for the input. Every time search flog all I get are the small multi strip one’s and I just don’t see those giving me the same feeling.

Ahh, i understand. You might want to look up cat-o-nine tails and canes. Cat-o-nine tails are simular to floggers but less straps and more cable like. I havent tried those yet, thats on my to do list. Lol good luck on your search! Sounds like alot of fun!

You should try the vendor/maker list (sticky post up there) and look at the products we all make, many of us make lots of varieties/styles and in lots of different materials too.

For instance I make DragonTails and DragonTongues in suede and leather very supple materials that lead to fluid motion and are very capable of raising welts. I make 9Tails in latigo lacing which are very stingy and can leave marks. I also make leather barbed wire with hand tied knots in 3 different weights/thicknesses which is all sting. And I am working on what I call monkey fisted barbed wire which will combine thud and sting.

And that’s just the leather, then there is rubber which may be closer to the feel you are looking for.

Happy Shopping there are a great number of choices, some even reasonably priced if you know where to look. 😉

Hope I’m not doing any rule breaking but…

I want to buy a new flogger. I like a good sting and love welts but I don’t know that I’m quite ready for anything too intense. And is it a bad idea to buy online?
    Any advice would be helpful!

I suggest finding a maker in your area, or other talking with friends about who they recommend. An awful lot of online stuff is poor quality and/or expensive. Custom makers like myself put quality materials and invest time into the item to assure quality. Some of us even offer lifetime warranties on workmanship.

If you have a bit of experience and know what you are looking for buying online is fine. If this is your first time buying a flogger you should use caution online shopping as many large commercial sites stock the same mass produced in foreign places stuff. However, there are plenty of flogger makers here on fet and many of us have our own websites or sell our wares on ETSY of other places.

If you don’t have a lot of experience wielding floggers it can be hard to know what size/length you will be comfortable with, if you can make it out to an event with vendors I would recommend it highly as it can be very helpful to pick up handle and swing a variety of things to figure out what you like.

If you have any specific questions feel free to email me.

As has been said local is a great way to buy. One of the risks of online is dealing with the uncertainty of the person you are ordering from. There are quite a few of us on here that make what I consider high end toys that are not high end priced. But if you have never purchase from someone before there is always that unknown. How will he/she treat your order and make sure you are happy with your purchase. As Sovran said some of us do offer lifetime backing of our toys. Others, like myself, will tell you if you are not happy with it just send it back. If you are unsure ask for references. Engage with the person and make sure your toy is being made to fit your needs and desires. But if you can find someone local at least give that person a look. After all it is more fun to buy something you can see and feel.

If you can find someone close to you, then that is always best. If you can’t find someone then try locating an event with venders nearby and visit them. Most will be glad to talk with you to help you get what you are looking for and even suggest materials and lengths of falls and handles. Buying in person offers you the advantage of being able to use it on your own bared arm or leg before purchasing, which is rather difficult to do on line.

Many things effect the feel of leather and there is a big difference between leather and suede, while the width the falls are cut at is a factor so is the weight of the hide and type of suede/leather(cow, calf, lamb, bison, elk, etc.).

If you look through the makers listed in the sticky and see a photo you like perhaps you could ask them for a sample of the material to be mailed to you. I know I have/do send material samples it is very hard to judge the weight/thickness/stiffness/color from a photo sometimes.

My question is about floggers made from “porous” materials that may retain bodily fluids such as natural body oils and sweat for instance. What is the correct etiquette for using a porous flogger. Some rope bondage people say ropes should only be used on one person then gifted to that person due to the absorbency of the material. That thought process got me to wonder about the etiquette with floggers.
So what happens to a leather, paracord or other porous material flogger which can absorb body fluids? Does it get gifted or will it see continuous use?
    Thanks in advance

I have certain floggers I use only on my slave and many others that are “communal”. I have enough that I can hang used ones up for a month or so to air out to avoid possible BBP transmission.

What you are asking is correct though. Leather can absorb anything on the skin or under it if the skin is broken.

It is the same with floggers, The educate is that one flogger should be for one person. But rarely in a bar scene is it the case. I myself have used the same gloves publicly for now 9 years But, I have a alcohol spray, wash my leather lightly with dextrous soap, a hospital only acquirable substance. BUT, still I have contracted MRSA from a open zit on a girl’s ass.

Let me tell you a story about the hospitals here in Toronto. One of them, had a problem with an OR one of the most sterile environments on the planet. Every operation ended with the patient contracting MRSA. They narrowed it down to the doctor’s farts. They have subsequently stated testing EVERYONE coming in the door. In 2005 I hosted a night that did blood play on a stage in the venue… I would NEVER do now. Times change.

If any blood gets on a flogger, from that moment it only gets used on that person.

Normal sweat and dirt, I would clean with a normal leather preparation and air.
Anti bac will destroy the leather over time, so if the flogger isn’t in constant use, use very sparingly.
Most non blood born infections do not live long outside the body.

If it is being used on multiple people regularly, then an anti bac must come into play followed by a conditioner.

I like the idea of letting communal floggers “rest” for a month. Gives the unwanted stuff a chance to go to the coodies graveyard.

The thing about leather is it absorbs stuff. When I was a volunteer firefighter any time gear made of leather got any fluid (when injuries were involved) on it they would be destroyed and new gear issued. You can imagine the amount of expensive leather gloves we went through. For the same reason the boots were of synthetic materials. Guess I am a bit paranoid from the old days.

At least with paracord it can be run through the washing machine with some soap and bleach. Effectively making it safely reusable.

What is Dextrous Soap? Google seems to have a hard time with that term. Is there a spelling error possibly?

It is true that most germs do not fair well outside the body. That is always a plus when dealing with unwanted contamination. That can be the first line of defense, use their own weakness against them.
